Confident Kids Camp is a 5-day, intensive treatment program designed to help prepare children with Selective Mutism for the upcoming academic year. This camp utilizes one on one intervention and group therapeutic techniques in simulated classroom environments to give campers the opportunity to practice verbal skills with other children and adults.
Each child is paired with an adult counselor trained by Dr. Kotrba in behavioral intervention. The camp schedule is modeled after a typical school day, including morning meetings, activity centers, meals, and field trips all with the goal of significant increases in verbal communication through practice and reward systems. Children benefit not only from the daily experience of a classroom setting focusing on practicing new, “brave” behaviors, but also from interacting with other peer “campers.”
While children obtain intervention, parents can benefit from "parent boot-camp," learning strategies to increase speech in public settings and interacting with other parents of children with Selective Mutism.
