Counselors opportunities for Confident Kids Camp (CKC)

Starting in January of 2024, Thriving Minds will recruit volunteer counselors for our 2024 Confident Kids Camp, an intensive therapy "camp" for children and adolescents with Selective Mutism. Counselors are supervised at all times and complete approximately 40 hours of direct, supervised therapy with a pediatric population. The morning is spent in classroom activities and afternoons include field trips, scavenger hunts and “special guest appearances” that kids enjoy. This is a fun way to make a difference in the lives of children with selective mutism, help prepare them for the upcoming school year, and improve your clinical skills. Opportunities are available for graduate and undergraduate students.

Counselors will:

  • Attend a full-day training on a Saturday in June (date TBD)

  • Participate in a 2-hour preliminary “lead-in” session with their assigned camper during the summer of 2024 (dates TBD)

  • Attend the entire camp in Brighton, Michigan: July 29 - August 2, 2024 from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM

Interested clinicians and graduate students should send a cover letter and CV to Katelyn Reed at kreed@thrivingminds.info

Thriving Minds’ practicum training program is designed for advanced doctoral and master’s level graduate students (second year and above). This year-long training program focuses on the delivery of evidence-based interventions and gold standard evaluations of children, adolescents, and their families presenting with anxiety, Selective Mutism, OCD, ADHD and behavioral issues. The advanced practicum offered by Thriving Minds is unpaid, and requires a commitment of two days per week. Advanced practicum students are offered the supervised opportunity to conduct both pediatric psychotherapy and psycho-educational or development assessments, as well as dissemination of information to the public.

Typical practicum placements run from September - August with recruitment taking place in January and February. To find out information about available spots, contact Dr. Bryce Hella at bhella@thrivingminds.info.
