Approach to Treatment

Treatment with Dr. Hicks-Hoste is grounded in a team approach. She believes that positive partnerships with youth, as well as their parents, their teachers, and other important support figures in their lives, leads to the most effective treatment and outcomes. Children and teens’ unique strengths and areas of interest are woven into the application of evidence-based treatment strategies to help promote the learning, practice, and adoption of new skills and improved emotional wellness.

While Dr. Hicks-Hoste supports a variety of youth mental health concerns, she especially enjoys treating selective mutism and other anxiety-based disorders. She is trained in the Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE) parent-based treatment program. Additionally, she has served on the Board of Directors for the Selective Mutism Association since 2020.

Seeking help for oneself, or a loved one, can feel vulnerable and overwhelming. Dr. Hicks-Hoste aims to bring a sense of compassion, warmth, and gratitude to her work for families, as she is honored to be a part of their journey.
