Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT)
At Thriving Minds Behavioral Health, we provide Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics (CBIT), an evidence-based behavioral therapy for children with tic disorders and Tourette’s Disorder. CBIT helps children reduce the frequency and impact of their tics while increasing their sense of control and confidence in their bodies.
What does CBIT treatment look like?
CBIT is a structured, skills-based therapy that focuses on helping children better understand and manage their tics. Our treatment model includes:
Habit Reversal Training (HRT) techniques to reduce tic frequency and severity
Increasing awareness of the tic “pathway” and early warning signs
Teaching competing responses that help interrupt or replace tics
Weekly sessions with a Tic Specialist (typically 8–10 sessions. This may vary depending on the complexity of the tics)
Active parent involvement to support practice and progress outside of sessions
Sessions are primarily conducted with the child and clinician, while also equipping parents with tools to reinforce skills at home.
Who is this program for?
CBIT is a strong fit for:
Children and teens ages 6 and older
Those who are motivated to decrease the frequency of their tics
Families looking for a structured, evidence-based approach to tic management
It is well-suited for children with chronic motor or vocal tics, as well as those with Tourette’s Disorder.
